Coming July 2026: ‘Trump Accounts’ for Kids

In 2025, a new type of savings buckets was announced for minors: Trump Accounts. Starting July 5, 2026, children born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028, who are enrolled in a Trump Account, will receive $1,000 from the Treasury Department. The funding from the Treasury is a one-time contribution, but parents and others can contribute up to $5,000 annually until the child turns 18.
Funds can be accessed without penalty when the child turns 18 for qualified expenses like education, a first home purchase, or starting a business. Withdrawals may be subject to restrictions and would be taxed at ordinary income rates.
You can elect to open Trump Accounts for your eligible children through an online portal that will be available by summer 2026.
